Community Outreach - GetSET

Empowering the Next Generation of Women

For over 25 years, SWE SCV has been serving the community with award winning K-12 outreach programs. Our goal is help inspire, promote, and encourage young girls and women to pursue STEM related careers and fields. We do this by teaching engineering in workshops, providing mentorship, exposure through company tours, and providing an atmosphere of constant learning through engagement from real women engineers.  Our goal is to help promote the success of women joining our engineering workforce.

Our programs are 100% volunteer organized and run. To learn more about what we offer please keep reading below.

GETSET

The GetSET (Science, Engineering & Technology) program is an award winning outreach program of the Society of Women Engineers Santa Clara Valley Section (SWE-SCV) dedicated to encouraging, motivating and exposing young ladies from underrepresented ethnic groups to STEM careers.

The SWE-SCV/GetSET Summer Week program consists of five days and four nights with a variety of engineering and science workshops, events, and tours. The program is held at a local college or university, where girls are engaged in the college experience. Events are led and staffed by women volunteers from many different companies and communities in the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area. The women volunteers act as role models and introduce the participants to engineering and the sciences and help to foster leadership and team participation. Once accepted, girls are encouraged to participate in the program through all four years of high school to reinforce the message that the participants can be successful in STEM-related fields. The SWE-SCV/GetSET Program provides the continuity and support that is needed to help these young ladies succeed.
